Celebration of Life for Stanley Mason

MASON, Stanley Arthur January 26, 1931 – February 19, 2021 On February 19, 2021, Stanley Arthur Mason, loving husband, father and grandfather, passed away at the age of 90. Stan was born on January 26, 1931, in Hull, Quebec, of the late Frederick and late Marie-Jeanne (Leblanc) Mason. On May 11, 1953, Stan married the love of his life, Catherine Fitzpatrick, who he called Betty, and together they raised their two treasured children, Ron and Darla. Stan had a vibrant and exciting career with what was then known as External Affairs within the federal government of Canada. His work allowed him to travel the world and spend many years posted abroad, including in Geneva, New York and The Hague. Following his retirement in 1989, he took on his favourite job – being “Grampy” and looking after his beloved grand-daughter, Meghan. Stan loved to read, golf, woodwork and drive his prized Volvos, of which there were many models over the years. A devout Catholic, Stan also spent his time volunteering with his parish and serving with the Knights of Columbus. But Stan was first and foremost a family man; he was always happiest when in the company of his immediate and large extended family. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 67 years, Catherine; his children Ron and Darla (Chris); his grand-daughter, Meghan (Shaun); and his step-grandson Robbie (Tanya). He will also be fondly missed by his siblings Adele, Ann and Danny (Laurie) and his many extended family members. Stan is predeceased by his other siblings Ada, William, Russell, Myrtle, Audrey, Clifford, Joan, Richard, Robert, Shirley and Lyle. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, a Memorial Mass will be held on February 26, 2021 at 10 am, by invitation only. Please join the family via livestream at www.livememorialservices.com/Home/ServiceDetail/10998 . The family wishes to send a special thank you to the staff at the Ravines Retirement Residence and The Ottawa Hospital, Civic Campus, for their care and compassion. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to the University of Ottawa Heart Institute or Divine Infant Catholic Church.

If ever there is a tomorrow when we're not together, there is something you must always remember. You are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think. But the most important thing is, even if we're apart, I'll always be with you.
