Funeral Service for Arthur Hon Yuen Law

Arthur passed away peacefully on Monday, October 4, 2021, surrounded by his family. He was a loving, caring husband, brother, father, grandfather, and friend. He will be deeply missed by Diane, his beloved wife of 56 years; his children Andrew and Alice (Sean); and grandchildren Maia and Ryan; all of whom he loved and cherished. He was predeceased by his parents, Law Jun Bun and Law Mew Sim, and his sisters, Connie (Gordon) Cheng and Francis (Walter) Lee. He is also survived by his sister, Barbara (Norman) Kwan and his many nieces and nephews. Arthur had a happy childhood in the Shekki Subdistrict of Zhongshan, China. Flying paper kites from his rooftop perch and swimming in the local waterholes were favourite pastimes. As a teenager, he moved to Hong Kong to study English for several years while living with his godfather and his family. He and his godbrother, Henry, shared the same sense of fun and nose for mischievousness during these formative years and they would remain fast and loyal friends over 60 years. As a young man, Arthur made the move to Canada to join his father and manage the family grocery business, Wiseway. He soon met his beautiful wife, Diane and married. A few years (and two children) later they decided to close the store and open another grocery store of their own called Raynor’s Low Cost. They proved to be a good team: Diane working tirelessly minding the store and building a flourishing floral section while raising Andy and Alice; and Arthur managing the finances. For over 17 years, customers became loyal patrons drawn to Arthur’s easy-going attitude, quick smile, and generous nature. Arthur finished his working career managing the family business, Food Forum, and enjoyed his daily interactions with staff and customers alike. An avid traveller, Arthur loved to visit new countries and experience their food and cultures firsthand. He loved meeting new people and made everyone feel at ease and welcome in his company. We will always remember and treasure Arthur’s gentle nature, sense of humour, laughter, and his radiant smile. We are especially grateful to Lisa Wong for all her help, friendship and kindness over the years, and to the wonderful staff on 4 South at the Royal Jubilee Hospital for their gentle, compassionate care during Arthur’s last weeks. A Funeral Service will be held at Sands Funeral Chapel – Victoria, 1803 Quadra Street on Wednesday, October 13, 2021, at 1:00 pm. If ever there is a tomorrow when we're not together, there is something you must always remember. You are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think. But the most important thing is, even if we're apart, I'll always be with you.
